The Office of Educational Innovation and Assessment (OEIA) is inviting faculty, staff and graduate students to join a network at Lehigh that is focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) within higher education learning environments. The Strategic Methods for AI-Responsive Teaching (SMART) community of practice is open to all faculty and instructional staff (including adjuncts, visiting faculty, graduate teaching assistants, and postdocs) regardless of their prior familiarity with and/or use of AI.
For the Fall 2026 semester, two enrollment options are available, as follows:
AI Knowledge Explorer Track (Tier 1): Please note that this tier is designed to provide a foundation in a variety of topics ranging from effective prompt engineering and ethical uses of AI to developing AI policies/guidelines and creating AI-informed learning experiences. Consequently, it is best suited for individuals with limited experience using AI in instructional contexts OR those individuals seeking a refresher/opportunity to connect with like-minded peers.
AI Innovator Track (Tier 2): Participants in this tier will engage in the backward design process to create and field-test an AI-informed resource (e.g., chatbot, simulation, assessment) within their learning environments. Opportunities for disseminating the results of one's field-testing will also be discussed.
Recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to the ways in which AI might be integrated into one's instructional space, both tiers will also include ample dedicated time for participants to apply what they have learned.
Participants who complete all aspects of either tier will receive a microcredential and official letter from the OEIA documenting their efforts, which can be included in dossiers and other professional profiles/media.
